Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she’s an Elder, but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control, but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she’s betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and doesn’t even know his name.

Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky southern girl, or fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is, not what she will become.

As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head win the battle, or her heart?

A letter to Riot of Storm and Smoke on release day

This is one of my most anticipated books for 2015 and it’s finally here!!! If you like the Grisha trilogy then you will love these! Happy Book Birthday!!!

Speaking Jenerally

Riot of Storm and Smoke cover Jennifer Ellision

Happy book birthday, Riot of Storm and Smoke!

Like your older sibling, Threats of Sky and Sea, I want to write you a letter on this, your release day. Like Threats, there were times I doubted we’d be able to get to this point. In writing you, there were often multiple steps back for every step forward.

But unlike with Threats, I always knew where you, Riot, would start and end. It was just all of the stuff in the middle that took me a while to figure out.

You were different and, like so many younger siblings, you struggled to define yourself. To stand apart from Threats of Sky and Sea. And boy, did you manage. To illustrate that point, I’ve pulled together a couple of small graphs for a few of these differences:Screen Shot 2015-08-14 at 4.51.18 PM

Excerpt

The priestess was an attractive woman. Myrren eyed her sideways as they walked together through the corridors of Darkhaven, their pace slow and steady to make allowance for her injured ankle. Despite the thin veil covering her head – required costume for a priestess outside her own temple – her hair shone like polished bronze in the light from the gas lamps. He couldn’t make out the freckles that he knew were scattered across the bridge of her nose like seeds on a fresh-baked roll, but the curves of her body were clear enough through her high-necked gown. There were very few women in Darkhaven; it was a place for men, hard-eyed and dour. Serenna was like a bright bird caught within its walls, something vibrant and incongruous.

As though sensing his hungry stare, she turned her head to look at him. Quickly, he averted his gaze. During their previous conversation, her frank grey eyes had met his without any hint of judgement.

He had liked that; he was used to people judging him. He didn’t want to spoil it by making her uncomfortable.

‘I hope I haven’t caused you too much inconvenience by asking you to come here, Sister Serenna,’ he said. ‘The high priestess seemed happy enough when I spoke to her, but I know how these things can be.’

‘No inconvenience, my lord.’ Her voice rose and fell in measured cadences, like the bells of her temple; he’d noted that about her on their first meeting. ‘The Altar of Flame is always open to those who seek advice – though admittedly, it’s rare for us to leave the temple in order to give it. The high priestess was glad to be of service to Darkhaven.’

‘You can stay in Ayla’s room,’ Myrren said. ‘I hope that will be all right. Our guest rooms are really not in a usable state.’ He shot her another sideways glance. ‘The Nightshade line doesn’t receive many visitors. I can’t think why.’

He saw the lifted curve of her cheek; she was smiling beneath the flimsy veil. But her voice remained as cool and even as always.

‘I assure you, Ayla’s room will be more than sufficient. I am used to far more ascetic surroundings.’ She stopped, leaning on her cane. ‘But first, I think it would be a good idea for me to see your father’s body.’

Surprised and rather dismayed, Myrren tried to make out her expression beneath the veil. ‘Are you sure that’s –’

‘If I am to help you, I need to know as much as possible,’ she said. ‘And that includes seeing with my own eyes how your father died.’

~~My Thoughts~~

Rating: 5 stars

Lorenz Font has done it again. I am speechless! I always end a book in The Gates Legacy series thinking that there is no way she can top it. And she has consistently proved me wrong with each one that releases.

In each of The Gates Legacy books there is a different main character focus, which I think keeps it very interesting. The main focus in Reckoning is Cyrus (yum!) and Issy, who we meet in Ascension. I love that we finally get to know Cyrus a little bit better and that he finally starts to work through what he went through at the hands of Zane. With help from Issy of course! Ah, sweet Isidora, my dear I think you’re a new favorite! This is one girl you won’t find cowering in a corner while the big strong men handle it. She will be right at the front kicking ass. I think that is one thing about all the women in The Gates Legacy series that makes this series so great. There are no ‘oh save me’ moments in the women’s minds. They fight for themselves and for those they love without hesitation.

We also get a little bit more of nice guy Zane. I am very happy with how things are working out on this front and I can’t wait to see where Lorenz Font takes it! I’m hoping he and Cheryl are the main focus for book 5 *hint*hint*don’t let me down Font!*

~~SPOILER IF YOU HAVEN’T READ ASCENSION ~~ Of course after Goran’s downfall we needed a new villain…and the new one definitely rivals him in wickedness ~~END SPOILER~~

Now I was a little late to the party since I didn’t start reading these until right before the release of Ascension (The Gates Legacy Book 3) [Read my review of Ascension here] but better late than never! So go pick up your copy because you will not regret it! Just make sure you have plenty of tissues and sweets and you will be fine 😉 I’m giving Reckoning a solid 5 stars for great plot development, easy to love (or hate) characters, lots of action, the need for a cold shower (more than once) and for not completely ripping my heart out. The entire Gates Legacy series I give only 4 1/2 stars, it would be 5 but I’m taking off the half star for all of the pieces of my heart that are now gone because of these books!

~~EXCERPT~~

With Isidora in his arms, Cyrus found comfort from the torture of his nightmares and his past. The warmth of her touch and the sweetness of her kisses made him think of nothing but the present and the desire he had long denied.

11203043_697474750380233_423588790353345754_nCyrus had no idea how to take things between them. He had given her rough sex because he had been a jealous ass. If he’d been thinking clearly, he wouldn’t have done it. Yet he had given in to the intense need to possess her. Maybe, if he took things slow and started from the beginning, he could make do with the little kisses and touching. However, the tenting inside his pants was a cause for concern. It didn’t take long for her to notice.

Issy broke their kiss and smiled up at him. She had that gleam in her eyes, the kind that told him she knew what he was thinking. He rotated his hips, trying to create room between their bodies, but she refused to let him go.

“This is a good time to see if we can work things out.”

“Damn it,” Cyrus muttered. Was he ready? The answer was out of his hands. With the massive wood he was sporting, even a long dip in an icebox wouldn’t chill him out. His body needed Issy, and there was no doubt she wanted him, too.

“Cy, you can take charge of everything. We’ll go at your pace and on your terms. I’m here to enjoy the ride.”

This made him smile. “Even if the ride is bumpy?”

“As long as I’m with you.” She tightened her arms around his waist. “I don’t care how rough, how easy—just take me with you.”

Synopsis

A forbidden love. A dark curse. An impossible choice…

Descended from a powerful Wethersfield witch, sixteen-year-old Sophie is struggling to hide her awkwardly emerging magic, but that’s the least of her worries. When a dangerous thief tries to steal her mysterious heirloom necklace, she is rescued by the one person she’s forbidden to fall for, a descendant of the man who condemned her ancestor to hang. He carries a dark secret that could destroy them both unless Sophie learns how to tap into the mysterious power of her diamond bloodcharm. She will have to uncover dark secrets from both of their families’ wicked pasts and risk everything, including her soul to save them from a witch’s true love curse, but it will take much more than that.

Excerpt

“You really want to know?” He circled behind me, not touching me, but I could feel him there, just an inch away. He stepped closer, his body heat warming my exposed neck.

I tried to ignore the trembles and craving his alluring voice provoked. Heat and tension continued to roll off him. My breathing quickened.

“Secrets never stay secret in Wethersfield. It’s going to slip out eventually.”

He circled around to face me again and nodded. “Your curiosity is inexhaustible.”

I pressed my hand to my forehead, trying to regroup, which was harder than it should have been. “Look. It doesn’t matter. I can handle whatever it is.”

“Zeke will be thrilled if he finds out what I’m about to tell you.” He shook his head, probably imagining the ugly scenario. “I come from a long line of Mathers who have been more than unlucky in love. A staggering number of them, so many that one cannot blame it on misfortune or bad luck. For years, my father thought it was a genetic fluke until he had our ancestor’s DNA tested and, like his own, it showed nothing.” He rolled his sleeve up enough to show me the pinkish birthmark on his wrist. It resembled a small heart broken in two, exactly like Zeke’s. “You see, from my father’s research, every Mather heir for centuries has carried this mark in this spot. It is something passed down in our family, inherited, but not genetic. That leaves only one explanation. Our bloodline is cursed.”

“Are you sure it’s not Karma or bad luck?” We knew Francis had been cursed for his father’s hand in the hangings. But all of them? I didn’t think a generational curse was really possible.

“I don’t believe in bad luck, but I do believe in the power of this curse. It has haunted us through time.”

“How many of you?”

“After they fell in love? Since Francis Mather, the one buried under the tree next to your ancestor, all of them. Not at first. Some of them were able to bear a child or two before their love deepened and the curse took hold of one or both of them. It is why my father used a surrogate rather than risk a relationship. He, Zeke, and I are the last of Rev. Mather’s direct descendants. It’s too many to make sense so all we are left with is the fact that we are cursed to live a life without love or die from it.”

I staggered backward, staring at the trees lining the path, in shock. Elizabeth warned me about a curse living on. The judge even sputtered on about a problem caused by the witches. Did they both mean a generational curse on the Mathers? Generational curses were only heard of in myths because they required great power and a dark heart. Did Rebecca have that much power? “Let’s say that’s even possible.” I could barely grasp the possibility for the irony got in the way. A curse cast by my ancestor meant to punish the Mathers was now threatening not only my happiness, but my life.

My Review

I don’t know where to start telling you how much I loved this book! With shelves filled with witchcraft stories, fiction and historical alike, I think Disenchanted will forever stand out as one of my favorites. Sophie, even while being supernatural, remains human. Though she fights between her head and heart she ultimately makes her decisions based on her heart. That’s something I think we can all relate to.

One of the things I loved about Disenchanted is it’s parallels to Romeo And Juliet. Along with all my “witchy” books, I love to read classics and Romeo And Juliet has always been a favorite. Leigh Goff merges the two worlds in such a way that I won’t ever be able to read R And J without wondering where all the spells are! She also found the one thing that R And J was missing…a Hottie McTottie Brit with a rebellious streak 😉 Another thing that drew me so far into the Disenchanted world was all of the subtle hints of real history woven in. It just makes you believe that this actually happened and that they just tried to keep it all quiet. I mean, you can even search the last name of ‘Hottie McTottie’ and you’ll pull up Salem Witch Trial articles!

I know this review is kind of short, but it’s late (because I could not put this book down and I had to talk about it right away!) Overall I’m giving this book 5 Stars and a permanent place with my favorite books. Leigh Goff writes with such vivid imagery that you finish reading it and could swear you witnessed the events firsthand. She is definitely an author to keep you’re eye on. I think we are going to see some amazing things from her.

My Rating of Disenchanted: 5 Stars

Excerpt

Moira choked down a congealed glob of oatmeal. Bland, like all the food here. She picked up her plastic knife and smeared margarine onto a piece of dry toast. Patients were only given plastic utensils. She washed the toast down with a gulp of tepid decaf coffee and sat back, miserable. “I hate this place, I want out.”

“At least your session was cancelled for tomorrow,” Jack said. “One less thing I’ll have to sit through.”

Dr. Cassano didn’t say why, either, Moira worried. He seemed nervous about cancelling too.

“We’ll get out.”

“Not we, Jack, me. I want out.” She stared mournfully at the food on her tray. “I don’t care what happens to you.”

“That’s not nice,” Isabella said.

“I don’t care what happens to you, either.”

“You’re mean!” She retreated to the corner of the room to pout.

“Don’t be mean, Moira,” Jack reprimanded. “Isabella’s just a child.”

She let out a sound of frustration. They both knew Jack didn’t care the slightest about Isabella. “I wonder why Dr. Cassano cancelled it.”

“Why do you care?”

Moira turned away pointedly and undid her braid, hoping to dissuade the headache coming on.

“Don’t ignore me,” Jack said, his voice hardening. “I didn’t like the way he looked at you this morning.” He grabbed her arm.” I don’t like the way you look at him either. I see the way you look at him.”

She shook him off. “You’re paranoid, Jack.”

“You know what I’m talking about, don’t play dumb.” He sat back, his eyes watchful. “Don’t trust him, Moira. Who knows what he’s planning?”

“If you do anything, Jack, I mean anything. They’ll lock the door and throw away the key.” She moved away from his presence. “And don’t think they wouldn’t medicate me with a dozen different pills, all guaranteed to make you go away forever.”

“You know pills won’t make me go away, Moira,” Jack bit out. “They might make you sleep, but they won’t make me go away.”

Silence filled the room. Moira picked up her brush and started brushing out her hair.

“It would be his word against yours, if he ever tried anything.”

“Just drop it, Jack,” Moira said.

Jack narrowed his eyes. “He’d medicate you so you’d never remember it, either.”

She shook her head in disgust.

“Maybe you could bust out of here!” Isabella jumped up. “I’ll bet you could open the window with that knife.” She ran over to the window and pushed against it.

“It’s completely sealed, Isabella.” Moira watched her, feeling helpless to the noise from her efforts. “Stop banging on it! You’re going to get me into trouble.”

“You could cut through the walls!”

“Hello? Plastic knife, it can’t cut anything.”

“It can’t?” Jack asked. “Have you tried?”

She caught his look and quickly turned her attention to Isabella, who was still thumping on the window. “I’m not breaking out of here, Isabella. Do you want me to go to jail?”

“But what if they keep you in here forever?” Isabella asked.

“They’re not going to.”

“But what if they do?” Isabella jumped up and down. “What if they keep you here until you’re old and grey and all your teeth fall out?”

“It would be awful to be stuck here forever,” Jack said quietly. “Wouldn’t it, Moira? Just awful.”

“They’re not going to keep me here forever!” Moira said. “Isabella, stop it!”

The door opened. “Problem?” the nurse asked.

She glanced over at Jack. A slice of a smile crept across his lips. “No. No problem. Just…thinking aloud.”

“Finish up your breakfast, then,” she said briskly. She shut the door again.

Moira picked up her carton of juice and took a sip.

Jack pushed her hand upwards, sloshing juice into Moira’s face and down her T-shirt.

Whoops!” Isabella giggled.

“Asshole,” she muttered. She went into the bathroom with Jack trailing her. Their eyes connected in the mirror.

“Looks like you’ll need another shower,” he murmured.

She pressed her mouth in a straight line and turned her back to him.

My Thoughts

If I say that they need to turn this into a B ‘horror’ flick (because those are always the best kind!) would you read this? Because you have to read this. I couldn’t put this one down! The suspense almost killed me and I got more than a few stares as I gasped aloud (I was reading while I was at work…shh). I have always loved books/movies/shows centered around mental facilities, so getting into the story was easy for me. And while I have read my fair share of poorly written ones, this one didn’t make that list. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Voices!

One of my favorite characters is Isabella, the younger of Moira’s spirits. I have nieces and nephews about her age and Johal did an amazing job at capturing that unique personality that can only be found in a 5-7 year old. I think I would have gone crazy with Isabella hanging around for years! Another of my favorites…no, my absolute favorite, is Adam! Ah! I really wish we had gotten more background for Adam…maybe a prequel featuring Adam, huh Clarissa? HUH?! Yeah, I think that’s a good idea.

I’m giving Voices 4.5 stars for its intriguing story, realistic characters and fantastic suspense.

~~BLOG HOP EXCERPT/POST~~

DAY 2

“Hey, what are you doing here?” Tor asked, walking closer. He reached out and touched her shoulder. Her muscles were tense and hard.

Allison pivoted, and her eyes gave her emotions away. Without answering, she launched a mean, right-handed slap across his face, and he staggered backward.

“That’s for leaving, you stupid, stupid man!”

For once in his life, Tor was out of wisecracks. He stared at her, stunned and at loss for words. Touching his cheek, he could still feel the sting. He’d screwed up.

“I’m sorry . . . I didn’t mean to leave just like that. I—I got a little carried away.” Tor had no idea how to do the whole apology thing, but he tried.

Allison shook her head. “Do you know how it feels to think I might lose you? I lost Daddy already. Please don’t put me through that kind of hell again.”

Her plea tore at his heart. He had forgotten to consider her feelings.

“Ally, I apologize . . .” He moved closer, aching to touch her.

“I don’t think I’d live if I lost you.” Allison closed the distance between them and wrapped her arms around his waist.

Closing his eyes, Tor breathed in her scent and thanked his lucky stars he hadn’t blown his chance with her. “You won’t. I’ll be with you until you’re sick of me.”

“If you ever pull a number like that again, I swear I’ll kill you myself.”

Atta girl! That was the Allison he had come to love.

“I won’t give you a reason to get rid of me.” He tugged at her arm and directed her to the door. “I want to show you exactly how sorry I am. Let me make it up to you.”

Allison stopped walking and turned to face him, her eyes narrowing. “And how exactly are you going to do that?”

He waggled his eyebrows and grinned. “You’ll find out . . . in the bedroom.”

My Thoughts of The Infinite Expanse

I am so so happy that I have to chance to tell you guys about the stunning world that BC Powell has created within The Journals of Krymzyn series. When I ended book one, Krymzyn, I was more than unhappy with the ending (you can read my review {[here]}). But after I started reading The Infinite Expanse, I definitely started to feel better about how BC Powell decided to end Krymzyn.  I even upped by star rating, because I felt that it deserved the full 5 stars. I’m still not entirely happy with it, but I understand it better now and I feel like it was probably the best way for it to have ended.

In The Infinite Expanse we get a lot of information about the world, about how the society works,  and the very…interesting family dynamic, which at times can make for a slow story. Now, that isn’t to say that it isn’t interesting. I was entirely engrossed with every little detail and just could not get enough. Even right now, I am itching to read book 3 because I need more Krymzyn! This is one of those series that, believe it or not, I’m going to compare to Harry Potter. If you read HP you understand that there are some really really slow parts of the story where not much is going on where you are just learning a lot about the world, but the story doesn’t feel slow. It’s the same with The Infinite Expanse.

This is definitely a book that you will want to experience first hand. I’m not going to give anything away, as I feel this is a story you need to go into not knowing much about in order to really feel it. And you will definitely feel it. You will take your time, you will savor this story, and you will end up like me…..stuck in Krymzyn.

I give The Infinite Expanse 5 stars for the amazingly real and unique world that just sucks you in and the characters that are just so darn hard not to fall in love with.

I’m gonna take a second to brag here a bit…

When Krymzyn (Book 1, The Journals of Krymzyn) first came out, I was dying to read it! I didn’t get the chance to be a part of the tour for book one, but I did share some of the posts from that tour and got this tweet from BC Powell commenting on my profile pic at the time, where I had black hair with blue streaks. When I got that tweet, I was a little bit confused because I hadn’t read the books yet! But now, I think it’s totally brag worthy to-even jokingly-be compared to a Traveler of Krymzyn….by the creator of Krymzyn himself! Haha! Thanks BC Powell!!!

Adrenaline Adrenaline

Author: Sunniva Dee

Publication Date: April 30, 2015

Genre(s): New Adult, Romance

Synopsis

CAMERON
Life’s the shit!
Chicks squeal over how wild and yummy I am, play their silly games trying to tie me down. But I’m free as a bird, doing what makes life life: kicking extreme-sport-ass!

I base jump, snowboard, bungee jump. I do anything for the rush.

Then, Ingela blows into town for college—a cool Swedish blast of trouble. Foulmouthed and runway-gorgeous, the girl seeps in like poison and melts the freaking brain.

To Ingela I am what chicks were to me: pastime, leisure, entertainment, pleasure. She’s killing me, and I’m digging it. There’s a new rush in town!Yeah, I hunt down my highs, and now the chase is on. I’ll catch her soon enough, just, what’s the deal with her ex?

BO
With Ingela, sex is a dance. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.

On and off. On and off. Again, she’s wrecked with grief. It’s a reminder of how I destroy her, how crushed relationships shouldn’t be revived.

We’ve done this for years, now, but clearly we’re in for more.

CAMERON

The chase is over. Right here, right now, this is it. Even if it only lasts thirty seconds, the rush of what I’m about to do floods me and makes me feel. It’s so intense, every muscle in my body goes rigid with anticipation.

The air is sharp and early-morning raw. I stare out from my post on an overhang off Firam Peak. Let my eyes judge the steep drop into the ravine on the backside of the mountain. Jagged granite walls form unpredictable patterns that crash to the bottom the way I will soon, and a light dusting of snow contrasts starkly with the somber stone.

I shake my arms. Not to relieve the tension but to make sure I’m nimble and ready. I didn’t invite my friends, Dan and Marek, along today. I’d be better off with someone else around, of course, but nothing compares to the thrill I experience as I step forward alone. I’m on the edge now, in every sense of the word.

I draw in a breath of icy oxygen. Crack my fingers inside my gloves and adjust the strap on my helmet. I’m ready.

It’s so easy to plunge off the cliff. All I do is heave up on my toes and extend my arms. A light bend at the knees and I’m off, flying.

Ah, yes. I fly.

So good.

The wind howls around me. I’m fast—I’ve jumped a dozen times into this ravine so the speed doesn’t surprise me. When we started base jumping, Dan and I would heave ourselves as far out as we could to stay clear of the rock walls during the free-fall. With the velocity you take on, the smallest miscalculation will throw you against the ragged stone, toss you around, and beat you about like a rag doll. It’d be hard to survive.

It gets boring, though, to be careful every time. Which is why, at this point, to get that rush—the woozy bliss inundating my brain for hours afterward—I simply tip off the edge.

The wingsuit I wear is advanced technology. I stretch my arms out to the side, the fabric spanning open at my sides. A familiar sting of disappointment sings through me as I realize I’ll never fly without the squirrel suit. I can’t even begin to imagine the drug it would be to base jump with no security equipment. Straight to death, of course. I chuckle to myself at the thought.

I’m reaching the white ravine floor too quickly. Fuck, I’m lightning fast. The parachute on my back is a click away, but I postpone it, postpone it—

I’m on top of the world!

I’m so fucking alive while I plunge to what could be my last moment on Earth. I curl my body into a somersault and shout my rush out in an echo against the surrounding rock.

“Wooh-hooh!”

About Sunniva Dee

Sunniva DeeOriginally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” released November 2014. The first book I’ve self-published was the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which made me a proud indie author in October 28th 2014.

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you’ll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or disturbing because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me!

WRavenWhite Raven (Raven Series, #1)

Author: J.L. Weil

Publication date: March 27th 2015

Genres: Paranormal Romance, Young Adult

Synopsis

DREADFUL LIES.
UNEXPECTED LOVE.
IMPOSSIBLE TRUTH.

It only took one heartbeat to change my life—one chilling phone call in the middle of the night.

And then, as if my life didn’t already suck, my dad sends my brother and me to some idyllic island for the summer to live with a grandma we never met. WTH. Naturally, I rebel. In the end, I find myself shipped off to Raven Hallow…and bored to tears.

Until I get an eyeful of the mind-bendingly gorgeous Zane Hunter. The dark-hair cutie makes my pulse go bonkers, and I think, maybe this might not be so bad after all. Six feet of swoon inducing looks, with a hint of Celtic charm in his voice, he was the type of guy that left a string of broken hearts in his wake. And I had all the heartbreak I could handle.

Yet, there is something uncanny, almost supernatural about Zane, and it’s not just his devastating smirk. No matter how much distance I put between us, Raven Hallow isn’t big enough, and the sparking tension between is undeniable. Of course, the one person I want to avoid becomes my salvation.

My past comes back to terrorize me. Someone wants me dead, and the closer I get to the truth, the more I realize my whole life is a lie. I am no longer sure what is more frightening—the attempts on my life or the guy whose heart and soul are synchronized with mine.

Excerpt

TJ and Rose kept the conversation rolling as I gave the appropriate one-word responses or a head nod. I didn’t have much of an appetite, mostly picking at my chicken Caesar salad and gazing out at the ocean, until…

His hair was black as a wintry night, eyes icy blue as a gypsy’s heart. He had a lazy saunter about him and a glint of humor twinkling in those heart-melting eyes. There was nothing loose about his body, muscles bunching as he tethered a boat to the dock. I twiddled the straw, staring brazenly.

Good God. I wanted to have his babies. Not now, but most definitely someday.

And just like that, my summer got a billion times hotter…and interesting—way more interesting. I bit my lip, mulling over how I was going to accidently fall into his pants. Um—I mean path or even his lap would do, anything to get that one’s attention.

Drool hit the table in a mad case of fangirl, and I didn’t even know his name.

As if he sensed he was being slobbered over, his eyes scraped over me, and I held my breath. Holy hot tamales. An electric bolt of…lust maybe, I really didn’t know what it was, but it coiled through my body, making me shudder. A flicker of an unidentified emotion crossed his face, right before a secret smile appeared on his lips. Oh man, don’t get me started on his lips.

Elbows propped on the table, I rested my head on the edge of my palms, continually gazing and getting lost in the depths of his eyes. He hypnotized me. I followed his movements, my eyes glued to him. Then one of my elbows slipped off the table in classic Piper form, and down I went. I caught myself just before my chin whacked a corner of the patio table.

Only me.

Mortified, I closed my eyes.

TJ laughed. “Smooth, Pipe. I think you made a lasting impression.”

About VOICES:

Sometimes the ghosts from your past…are real.

Moira Flynn is arrested for attacking a door-to-door solicitor with a knife. She claims a voice told her the man was intent on assaulting her. The trouble is, she was the only one that heard that voice. Moira strikes a plea bargain and is sent to a psychiatric hospital for voluntary treatment. Dr. Richard Cassano is hesitant to treat her as schizophrenic, as she does not show the standard symptoms. As their sessions progress, Moira confesses there are two voices—and they aren’t voices in her head, but the voices of ghosts. Are they imaginary? Or are they actual spirits, attached to her for reasons of their own? As Moira’s doctor uncovers more of her past, he begins to realize that her ghosts are real. And one of them is determined to drag Moira into the afterlife with him.

*****I am in love with this cover! Muted color with that vivid red hair…amazing!*****

Excerpt from VOICES
